  Case Study:
Marine Corps Scanning Needs

Continued...

The Marine Corps contracted with IDEAL to provide the scan-to-print and vectorization capability for the TPC. TPC requirements included:
  • Highly accurate scanned input
  • Color-calibrated scan-to-print application
  • Accurate and easy-to-use vectorization
  • Scanning systems capable of working in mobile environments and varying temperatures
  • Scanning systems capable of integrating with the ESRI and ERDAS Geographic Information Systems (GIS) and image processing tools

Contract Work, Scope, and Deliverables
IDEAL delivered sixty-five GIS scanners, capable of delivering color images with 36" wide scans at 800-dpi resolution. IDEAL's GIS scanners are equipped with software that enables scan-to-file for digital archiving and/or color-matched scan-to-print for printing to HP 1055 printers, which are part of the TPC configuration. In addition, IDEAL's raster-to-vector conversion software enabled the scanned images to be imported into ESRI and ERDAS GIS and image processing tools.

IDEAL provided technical assistance in incorporating the scanning systems into the Tactical Geospatial Information Library, the Deployable Geospatial Information Library workstations and the Digital Terrain Analysis Mapping System. IDEAL trained Marine personnel at Camp LeJune, NC and Camp Pendelton, CA.
