Project Background and Objectives
The County of ADA Assessors Office had thousands of paper land record maps.
Title companies, surveyors, engineering firms and various government agencies
regularly requested copies of these maps. Searching for the maps and copying
them was a laborious and time-consuming process.
The Assessors Office wanted a digital archive system that would speed up the
search for the maps and shorten the print fulfillment time. In addition, they
wanted to be able to deliver digital CD quarterly updates to their subscribers.
The system needed to support image retrieval and display via a standard Web browser;
images needed to be available to the internal staff as well as to external subscribers
located though-out the county and nationwide. The system also needed to support
printing/plotting to multiple devices in multiple locations.
Contract Work, Scope, and Deliverables
The project required:
- build and maintain an active database of documents and database information, such as Survey Name, Survey Number, Instrument Number, Section Number and Surveyor Name;
- import information from an existing database and consolidate single images into multi page tiff images for easier database retrieval;
- web-enable the database as a search engine to display the images and allow users to print and or download;
- enable viewing via a standard web-browser;
- enable a shopping cart feature for batch printing to local network printers;
- automate and consolidate processes that ADA County Assessors office already had in place;
- maintain workflow during the conversion process.
IDEAL implemented an automatic scanning and indexing system using IDEAL/Contex Chameleon
color scanners and IDEAL's automatic indexing solution. WiseImage Basic was provided in
order to automate the combining of individual TIFF images Multi-Page Tiff images for ease
of location and distribution.
IDEAL delivered the web interface with standard browser viewing and shopping cart print
feature in a Commercial off-the-shelf (COTS) product called IntraNETIX. Security was
addressed through the operating system and IntraNETIX group restricition policies.
IDEAL customized the configuration to comply with ADA County Assessors office attribute
information and web site appearance. IDEAL installed the system, provided technical
support and trained the ADA County personnel.
