Project Background and
Objectives: The U.S. Census Bureau contracted with IDEAL to
develop a system to digitally archive thousands of paper maps
and other documentation in order to eliminate paper. The
system needed to support image retrieval and display via a
standard PC; images needed to be available to the staff in
Jeffersonville, Indiana; Suitland, Maryland; and the other
Census Bureau Regional Offices, located in twelve different
states.
