The scan station is used for scanning images to files and archive. The scanning is based on the scanner settings.
If you don't have a scanner connected you can open a raster file by clicking on the menu item Scan è Open. When an image is scanned or opened you can use the image functions before saving. Before you start scanning or open a file you have to specify a file name and a scan ID:
File Name
Enter the file name directly in the file name edit box or use a dialog box. Clicking on the browse button
in the Scan Options toolbar or on the menu item Scan è Browse… activates the dialog box. In the dialog box you can select a file format, path and name. When you click OK, the file name is inserted in the file name edit box. If you specify an extension in the file name, IDEALScanOS will use this extension, and save the file in the selected file format. However if you enter the file name directly in the file name edit box and you specify an extension, it will not be added automatically. Note that it's possible to use macros in the file name and/or file path. See also Auto Name.
You can change the default file format by clicking on the menu item Preferences è Scanning è File Formats.
Scan ID
Enter a scan ID for your scanned image, e.g. a project name, a drawing number or both. The scan ID makes it easy for you to find and retrieve the scanned image afterwards in the Archive station. You can enter a text up to 255 characters as the scan ID.
Manual Save
Having specified the file name and scan ID, you are ready to save the scanned image:
Click on the Save button
or click on the menu item Scan è Save. If you don’t want to save the scanned image, you can click on the discard button
or click on the menu item Scan è Discard.
Auto Save (Batch Scanning)
You don’t have to click on the Save button each time you scan. You can select to save automatically by clicking on the menu item Preferences è Scanning è Auto Save in which case IDEALScanOS automatically saves the image. The scan ID will then be the same for all scanned images. Batch scanning is used with either the Auto Name feature on or the Add Page feature on, see below.
Auto Name
Whether you save manually or automatically, you can select to have an ascending number added automatically to the file name by clicking on Preferences è Scanning èWhen Scan File Exists è Auto Name. The settings for the auto name number attached to the file name are defined by clicking on Preferences è Scanning è When Scan File Exists è Auto Name Setup and then by entering the number of characters and the starting number wanted for the ascending number.
Saving to existing file
If you try to save a scanned image with an existing file name, IDEALScanOS by default asks you if you want to save the image with another file name, overwrite existing file, add the scanned image as a new page in a multi-page file or Cancel the save operation. You can change the default Prompt setting by clicking on Preferences è Scanning èWhen Scan File Exists and then by selecting either Add Page or Overwrite.
Print on Save
If you want to make a copy to the printer each time you save a scanned image, click on the menu item Preferences è Scanning è Print on Save. The difference between this option and the Copy Station is that the image with this option is printed and saved at the same time. The next time you need to print the image you don't have to find the original paper, but you can find the image in the Archive Station and print it from there.
Saved Scan Information
The scanned image is saved to file and archived with four index fields:
v File name
v Scan ID
v Operator name
v Scan time and date
Post Scanning Options
In addition to the print on save and image functions, IDEALScanOS offers four post scanning actions:
Create DSG File
A DSG file is used by the ScanDEX scanning, indexing and archiving products. If you already use or want to update to one of these products, you should click on Preferences è Scanning è Post Scanning Actions è Create DSG File. Each time a scanned image is saved, IDEALScanOS will then save the related DSG file with the scan information, see above.
To utilize these DSG files in ScanDEX Pro, please refer to the manual that came with ScanDEX Pro. Search for the section that explains how to use scanner defined macros, and use the following macro names for inserting IDEALScanOS index information.

Rotation
If you have a lot of drawings that you want to be rotated upon end of scan click on Preferences è Scanning è Post Scanning Actions è Rotation and select one of the following clockwise degrees: 90, 180 or 270. Please note that you can always rotate an image by clicking on Image è Rotate.
Auto Align
If your drawing contains a drawing frame you can take advantage of the automatic align tool of IDEALScanOS. When enabled this feature will, upon end of scan, automatically detect the drawing frame and align the image according to it.
Despeckle
If your images contain a lot of spots coming from drawings with a lot of noise in the white areas, these spots can automatically be removed, upon end of scan, by enabling the despeckle feature. When selecting this menu item, a dialog asking for a pixel value will appear. If for example you specify 5 as this value, all spots equal to or less than 5 by 5 pixels will be removed
