Lesson 4. Raster, Vector and Hybrid Selection

Brief description: To perform operations such as modifying an object’s properties, you first need to select data to apply commands to. During this lesson you will learn how to select raster, vector and hybrid data for further editing.

For detailed information on these subjects see Selections and Working with raster symbols sections of the Quick Start guide:

Information

When selecting data, you must define three selection parameters: type of data to select, selection mode and selection method. The selection tools are located on the Select and More Select toolbars.

Type of data to select - raster, vector or hybrid.

On the Select toolbar press the appropriate button to select:
Vector objects
Raster data (including raster objects and raster areas)
Vector objects and raster data
Area selection only

Selection modes

You can add data to selection, remove from selection or use the single selection.

On the Select toolbar press the appropriate button:
To add data to selection
To remove data from selection
For single selection (every new selection deselects previously selected data)
Use these buttons to:
Select all objects (dependant on type of data to select)
Deselect all selected data

Selection Methods

Raster Area
Select inside window or polygon, select isolated raster objects by picking.
Raster objects
Select raster lines, arcs, circles by picking, by reference object, inside window (polygon), by crossing window (polygon), by fence.
Raster segments
Select inside window (polygon), by crossing window (polygon), by fence.
Segment - means a raster line of arbitrary shape, limited by intersections with other raster lines or endpoints.
Isolated raster fragments
Select inside window (polygon), by crossing window (polygon), by fence.
Vector objects
Select inside window (polygon), by crossing window (polygon), by fence.

Raster Selection

Choose Open from the File menu. Open the Selection.cws document from the Lesson_4 folder.

  • Select the raster circle by picking.
  • Select raster lines by fence.
  • Select raster objects by crossing window.
  • Select raster objects inside window.
  • Select texts inside window Floodfill
  • Select raster segments by fence
  • Raster Symbol Selection

Raster symbols are recognized in accordance with patterns stored in the special template libraries. A raster symbol can be rotated relative to the corresponding pattern and have a different scale. You can easily train WiseImage to recognize new symbols. Before selecting raster symbols you need to select corresponding templates in the Symbols tab of the R2V Conversion Options dialog.

During this exercise we’ll select raster symbols - denotations of windows and stairs.

Choose Open from the File menu. Open the Selection.cws document from the Lesson_4 folder.

    Zoom to the Floor image.

    • Select the stair, using raster area selection inside window.

If you select a raster object incorrectly, remove it from the selection.

    • Choose Train Symbol from the Convert menu.
    • Press the Save button, save the symbol with a name, e.g. stairs.

Symbols are stored in the folder specified in the Preferences dialog. You may create your own subfolder.

    • Select the window, using raster area selection inside window. If you select a raster object incorrectly, remove it from the selection.
    • Press the Create Symbol from selection button.
    • Press the Save button, save the symbol with a name, e.g. window.
    • Close the Train Symbol dialog.
    • Choose Conversion Options from the Convert menu.
    • Open the Recognition tab in the R2V Conversion Options dialog and select the Symbol checkbox.
    • Open the Symbol tab and select the window and stairs symbols from your folder.

    Choose:
    Strategy: Standard or Smart
Accuracy: Low (because the image - Floor has poor quality)
Orientation: Horizontal and Vertical (because the windows are located in both horizontal and vertical directions.

    • Press OK.
    • On the Select toolbar press the following buttons:
      • Selection method: Select Raster Symbol
      • Type of data to select: Raster.
      • Selection mode: Add.

    • Click the windows and stairs on the raster image.

Try to click on the central point of a raster element.
