Lesson 6. Dimensions, Editing Raster Text

Brief description: During this lesson you will learn how to create dimensions and edit raster texts.

For detailed information on these subjects see the following sections of the Quick Start guide: Dimension, Editing raster texts, and also the corresponding sections of the User’s Guide.

Create dimensions

Choose Open from the File menu. Open the Dimensions.cws file from the Lesson_6 folder.

Example: You need to create dimensions and modify the text.

Before editing
After editing

To create a linear dimension:

Open the Dimension toolbar.

  • Press the Create horizontal linear dimension button.
  • Specify two points to create dimensions.
INFORMATION: When specifying points, use the raster snap tools. Right-click with Ctrl pressed and choose a raster snap type from the list.

While the rubber line is displayed, you can tune dimension parameters in the Inspector.

For example, you can set the text height in the Text Height field, the markers position – in the Markers position field, the text position – in the Text position field, etc.

  • Click to finish creating the dimension.

To create an angular dimension:

  • Press the Create angular dimension button on the Dimension toolbar.
  • Specify the center point, then the first and the second angle sides.

While the rubber line is displayed, you can tune dimension parameters in the Inspector.

  • Click to finish creating the dimension.

For example, if you need to create text denotation of the angle dimension with the “degree” symbol, in the Text field choose %NU; if the “degree” symbol is not needed, choose %N.
If you choose User Defined in the Text Position field, you can specify the text position manually by moving it using the grips.

  • Create linear dimensions as shown in the figure.

While the rubber line is displayed, in the Text field choose %D to display the “diameter” symbol.

Editing raster text

To edit a raster text:

  • From the Draw menu choose Raster, and then Edit Raster Text
  • Outline the raster text with a rectangle.
  • Open the Inspector, and specify parameters for the new text in the corresponding fields.
